Proper Skin Care for the Different Types of Skin

The skin is the body’s largest and most visible organ, so it follows that proper skin care will be necessary to keep it in good shape. There are four types of skin, namely: normal, dry, oily, and combination. There is also a fifth skin type, “sensitive,” which may top the previous four. Here are some tips for maintaining different skin types:

  • Normal – Normal skin is comprised of oiliness in the face’s t-zone, dryness in the nose, and tightness on the cheeks. Proper methods of care include regular washing with facial cleansers, using a hydrating toner and applying moisturiser.

  • Dry – People with dry skin usually lack oil, experience dehydration, and have few or no breakouts. They can try rinsing their faces with rich cleanser and warm water, using specifically designed toner for dry skin, and applying cream-based moisturiser or lotion to keep the skin hydrated.

  • Oily – Too much oil leads to the development of blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle facial cleanser, followed by a hydrating toner and light moisturiser. Use oil blotting sheets to remove excess shine throughout the day.

  • Combination – People with combination skin types are prone to acne and development of oil in specific areas, but other parts are dry. Combine skin care procedures to address these concerns and consult a dermatologist for appropriate treatment methods.

  • Sensitive – Allergic reactions may transpire readily in this skin type. Remember to use products that are hypoallergenic and odourless to avoid certain reactions.
