Tips for Longer Lasting Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are one of the most popular hair styling materials. You can use them for stunning hair transformations while waiting for your hair to grow or cover up thinning hair. However, they aren’t permanent and their lifespan is highly dependent on maintenance. Here are some important care reminders:
When brushing…
Hair extensions, just like natural hair, can easily tangle. Hard brushing can weaken its bonds. Avoid stressing the extensions with the wrong brush by using those that are specifically designed for safe use near or on the bonds area. When detangling, work on the end part of the strands first, slowly working your way up as you brush down gently. When you reach the area of the bonds, hold it lightly for support.

When washing…
Use shampoos and conditioners specifically formulated for hair extensions because regular ones usually cause dryness. To avoid tangling, do not rub or massage your head in a circular motion. Instead, wash your hair upright and work the shampoo down. Avoid flipping your extensions over, too. When combing wet hair, apply leave-in conditioner (but avoid the bonds) and detangle gently using a wide toothed comb.
When sleeping…
Wash your hair hours ahead of bedtime and ensure it’s completely dry, otherwise, you’ll wake up with matted hair. To avoid tangling, tie the hair. In case you toss and turn a lot while sleeping, wrap hair with satin scarf, pillow case, or sleep cap. Avoid fabrics like cotton as it creates friction that can damage the extension.
